In this Northeast Florida premiere, playwright Lynn Nottage explores one of the poorest cities in America - Reading, Pennsylvania. This Pulitzer Prize-winning drama follows a group of down-and-out factory workers as they struggle to keep their present lives in balance, ignorant of the financial devastation looming in their near future. Based on Nottage's extensive research and interviews with residents of Reading, SWEAT is both a topical reflection of the present and a poignant dissection of the outcome of America's second great economic depression. It deftly paints a picture of a once thriving American community brought to their knees by corporate greed and political apathy, and leaves in its wake a stern cautionary tale for the rest of our nation.
Ample free parking is available within a short walking distance of the theatre. Street parking at meters is free during production hours, as is the surface lot adjacent to Burrito Gallery, one block west of the theatre on Adams Street, between Ocean and Main. A pay lot is located directly adjacent to the theatre on Adams.
